About Us

Kia Ora! We are a multi-cultural society dedicated to bringing our colourful Malaysian culture to Dunedin, New Zealand. Established in 1967, OMSA is one of the oldest, largest, and most active student association in the University of Otago.

We organize many exciting events for our members and the public throughout the year – from the dazzling Malam Malaysia to  mouth-watering delicacies on Mamak Night - there is something for everyone. We are also actively involved in events organized by the Otago University Student’s Association, such as the International Food Fest. We are proud to say that OMSA has won the Society of the Year award in 2013, and we were the First Runner-Up in the year 2015.

Students from all nationalities, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds are welcome to join us! Our goals are to engage with tertiary Malaysian students studying in the Otago region, to foster friendships with the diverse student and local communities, and to promote the culture of Malaysia to the people of Dunedin.

We have won the first-ever Best Cultural Club of the Year award in 2016, as well as the Best Club Event of 2016 for our annual cultural performance night Malam Malaysia!

Come say hi on Clubs & Socs Day during O-week!
